The Solutions - Hair Transplant Surgery
Hair transplantation has been continually refined over the last 50 years and Australia has a proud record as a leader in developing and refining advances in this field.
Hair transplantation has a justified reputation as being very safe. We are very confident of the skill and experience of our hair transplant team with our leading-edge techniques. Hair transplantation does not achieve our original hair density, but generally provides good to excellent coverage.
The procedure
Lifelong hair follicles are found in good supply in virtually all men at the back of the head in a horseshoe shape. Under a local anesthetic our surgeon will take a thin strip of hair from this area ('donor area'). The hair follicles are then dissected and the non-hair bearing tissue is removed. Hair follicles naturally grow in groups of one to three individual hairs, and so the grafts are dissected as they occur - in one, two and three follicle groups. Once transplanted this will ensure a very natural looking hairline.
Each follicle, or 'graft' is then skillfully relocated to the thinning or balding area at the front or on top of the head ('recipient area'). The grafts are transplanted into their new position at an angle which mimics the client's own hairline.
The recipient area heals in just a few days with no scarring. The new hair starts to grow in approximately three to four months.
Hair transplantation is the only proven, permanent solution to restore naturally growing hair. The transplanted hair retains its colour, curl and texture and will require regular cutting and styling. Your own hairdresser won't know the difference. Transplanted hair looks natural wet or dry, can be styled the way you like and is yours to enjoy for a lifetime.
What can be done to correct punch grafts?
If you received a hair transplant some time ago, it is quite likely that the technique used involved implanting a graft of 20-30 hairs. As the hair around these grafts falls out it leaves the grafts in place which leads to the “tufted or brush like” effect.
Using the latest micro-transplant techniques, our hair transplant team can correct this procedure resulting in a natural hair line. The original grafts are re-used and transferred in micro or mini-grafts of 1 to 3 roots per graft. Additional grafts can be taken from the side or back of the scalp if necessary. This can lead to a dramatic improvement in the appearance.
